Jeanette S. Carter passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 in North Okaloosa Medical Center within a little over three months before her 100th birthday. She was born December 7, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio during the World War 1 era, the daughter of William and Marion Bartmann Schnider, but was raised in the Bronx, New York. After her formal education she became a Registered Nurse and served her country as a nurse during World War 2.

After leaving the military she moved back to the Bronx but later moved to Florida where she met her future husband. Many will remember Jeanette in her employment in the early days of White-Wilson Clinic when Fort Walton was still in its’ early growing stage. When her daughter moved to DeFuniak Springs in the early 90’s Jeanette moved too.

After retiring from her nursing career, she went back to being a full time homemaker, keeping house, cooking and quilting, which she loved and was a member of several quilting clubs over the years. Jeanette was fortunate to enjoy superior health all of her life up to the very end. Her mind was sharp and one of her greatest loves was gardening in her yards.

This remarkable woman served her country, served the public as a nurse, raised her children, made her home and lived every minute of her life with zest until the very last second. It was Jeanette’s wish to be cremated, as several of her other family members were cremated and in a tribute to a life well lived, and collectively with her other loved ones who preceded her, she, with them, shall be memorialized in a private family celebration as their ashes make the final journey together.
