Luciano V. DiStefano Luciano (Lou) DiStefano, 83, of Somerset NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9th, 2018 due to kidney complications. Born on February 24th, 1935, Lou was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Steccato) DiStefano. Lou lived his entire life in New Jersey.

Born and raised in Newark, Lou moved to Union to raise his family after serving in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise (Tomasso) DiStefano, and his two children, Patricia DiStefano Chmura and Thomas DiStefano. Lou worked proudly in the commercial refrigeration and air conditioning industry and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus in Union.

After retiring, he moved to Brick where he enjoyed time by the shore, playing pool, and frequent trips from his grandchildren. His garden was the envy of all his neighbors, and he always took the time to help others by serving as his community’s unofficial handyman. He eventually moved back up to Somerset to be closer to his family where he was an active member of Canal Walk’s Veterans Club and Italian American Club.

He is also survived by his brother Joseph DiStefano and wife Jeanette, as well as his Son-In-Law Ron Chmura and Daughter-In-Law Dana Field DiStefano, and his four grandchildren, Jenna, Lucas, Kimberly and Emily. Lou’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity, as well as his compassionate spirit.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 9 AM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the funeral home followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. Joseph Church, 34 Yorktown Road, Hillsborough. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Association of Kidney Patients, 14440 Bruce B, Downs Blvd. , Tampa, FL 33613 or St Judes Childrens Research Hospital, www. stjude.org.
