Lucille Hoyt, 92, of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday morning, February 6, 2019, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Lucille Leota Winegardner Hoyt, daughter of Cloyd and Lillie (Spaur) Winegardner, was born February 25, 1926, in Bussey, Iowa. She attended the Union #1 School in the Coal Creek neighborhood through the eighth grade.

Following her education, she worked in restaurants in Lovilia and Lake Keomah. October 7, 1949, Lucille was united in marriage to Vernon Hoyt in Oskaloosa. They made their home in Oskaloosa, she was a homemaker and to this union, five children were born: John, Phyllis, Walter, Delores, and Darlene.

Lucille enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, and growing flowers in her early years. Later she enjoyed hosting family and friends for meals and fellowship; many games of cards, dominos, and Skip Bo were enjoyed at her home. Her family includes her son, Walter Hoyt of Oskaloosa, three daughters: Phyllis (Darrell) Swim of Oskaloosa, Delores “Dee” (Vance) Beyer of Otley, and Darlene Hoyt of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Sonya (Darren) Boot of Otley, and Chad (Jen) Beyer of Monroe; two step-grandchildren: Rob Beal of Salem, IA and Glynis Beal of Des Moines, IA; five great-grandchildren: Deacon, Devon, and Savannah Boot of Otley, Ian Beyer of Monroe, and Ryan Steenhoek of Monroe; five step-great-grandchildren; and numerous step great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gennevieve Chilcote of Oskaloosa.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, on March 11, 1988; her son, John on August 9, 2018; a great-granddaughter, Shaeleigh Boot; an infant sister, Maxine Winegardner; and her daughter Darlene’s special friend, Terry Sheets. Funeral services for Lucille will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2019, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brice Hoyt of the Traer United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Henness Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Sunday, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 2-4 p.m., Sunday afternoon. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in care of the Mahaska Health Foundation.
