Lucille A. Luedtke, age 94, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, at Primrose Retirement Community. Lu was born in Appleton on November 17, 1924, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Herres) Nowak Sr She graduated at Appleton High School with the class of 1942.

After graduation, Lu moved to Milwaukee where she met Gerald Luedtke. In 1946, she and Jerry were united in marriage and enjoyed 53 years together until his passing in 1999. While in Milwaukee, Lu worked for the telephone company.

The couple then moved back to Appleton and Lu worked for Home Mutual, now known as Secura, under Mr. Bubolz for 21 years until her retirement. After retirement, Lu did a lot of research on the history of antiques, spending a lot of time at the Neenah and Appleton libraries. Most of all, Lu loved spending time with her nieces and nephews on holidays and special occasions.

She is survived by two sisters: Sylvia Nichols, Appleton and Marilyn (Charles) Heimmermann, Roswell, NM; 2 brothers: Robert (Eleanor) Nowak, Appleton and Stanley (Betty) Nowak, Florence, WI. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters: Leona and Bernadine, and a brother, Frank Jr. A memorial service will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday, May 14, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, with Deacon C.F. Dedman officiating.

Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 3 pm until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Breezy, Kathy, and the staff at Primrose, the staff of Compassus Hospice, and to Tony and Linda Gertz for the compassionate care given to Lu.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “woo hoo, what a ride!
