Lucy Apel, 91, a longtime resident of Belford, passed away Thursday, March 21st. Lucy was born on April 12, 1927, a daughter of the late Caterina and Rocco Nesci. She married the love of her life, Warren on August 18, 1946.

They settled in Belford and raised their family. Lucy was a supervisor in the admitting office at Riverview Medical Center for 15 years and retired 32 years ago to help care for her grandchildren. Lucy’s family meant everything to her.

She enjoyed time spent with her family, especially when her great grandchildren came to visit. Lucy was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Warren Apel, Sr. in 2009. Her son Warren, Jr., his daughter Lori and Lucy’s great grandson Justin also preceeded her in death.

Lucy is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Cheryl of Island Heights along with Daniel and Patricia of Belford. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Linda Apel, 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 9 great grandchildren. Friends and relatives may pay their respects Tuesday from 5-8 pm and again Wednesday from 9 – 10 am just prior to the funeral service at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St, Belford.

The entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
