LUTELIA REED Lutelia (Zilfie) Hawkins-Reed was born February 6, 1922 in ldabel, Oklahoma to Henry and Rosie Hawkins. She was the youngest of six children. All her siblings and parents preceded her in death.

She attended Slater High School and graduated in 1941. Upon graduation, she moved to Kansas City, Kansas and became a member of 8th Street Baptist Church, Rev. I.H. Henderson, pastor.

She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri and united with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she served on the Mother board. She later united with Westminister Baptist Church and remained a member until her death.

Lutelia was married to Everett Reed for 36 years and they both loved the outdoors! Fishing was their main sport. They could be seen early in the morning getting lunches packed and fishing gear ready for the day.

Blue gill and crappie were their favorites to catch, clean and eat. She never had children of her own but was a mother figure to several including the Taylor children; Kristen, Alissa and Natasha. If you spent any time with her, you would certainly hear stories of “Dr. Taylor, Jeri and the girls”.

NO ONE could take the place of Lutelia’s longtime caregiver of 13 years, Gail Cisneros. She would let everyone know that she trusted her and if you wanted to know where anything was in the house, just ask Gail. Gail was an incredible organizer and was patient with her even during her decline in mental and physical health.

Lutelia was also very fond of her mechanic, Freddie Taylor. She always said,” he was the best mechanic in town” and would call on him for car repairs and odd job; Walter Sawyer, (brother) as she would call him. He was another one of her favorites.

She and Everett could call on him anytime they needed something done. They also spent lots of time fishing and hunting on his property. Lutelia leaves to cherish her memories; her eldest brothers children Rosa (Joe) Anderson, Henery (Barbara) Hawkins, Addie Hawkins and a host of great great-great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Clarence Reed; sister-in-law Corinne Hawkins; a senior companion Joy Robinson and a special friend for many years, Marsha Soltz.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Westminster Baptist Church 11230 Bristol Terrace KCMO 64157. Visitation 9:00 A.M. Interment Longview Cemetery.
