Obituary for Mabel I. Illingworth (Harter) Mabel I. Illingworth, age 100, of Rome, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2018 at Rome Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mabel was born in Deerfield, NY on July 21, 1918 to the late Myles and Mabel Jones Harter, and was educated in the Holland Patent Schools. She was united in marriage to Frederick W. Illingworth II, on December 24, 1940 in Holland Patent; a blessed union of over 33 years until his passing on February 15, 1974.

Mabel worked alongside her husband, Fred, as owners and operators of Fred’s Grocery for over 30 years. Mabel was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the Golden Years Club, and the South Rome Senior Citizens. She was also a huge Mets fan.

Mabel is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Edward) Fall, and Linda (Ronald) Ziminski, all of Rome; two sons, Frederick (Gayle) Illingworth III of Taberg, and Richard (Christine) Illingworth of Camden; grandchildren, Edward (Marie) Fall Jr, Nelson (Melinda) Fall, Mark Campbell, Gina (Bernie) Miller, Jenna (Brent) Illingworth-Rosky, Kirsten (Martin) Parker, Patrick (Melissa) St. Thomas, Toni St. Thomas, and Nicole (William) Kantor ; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Norma Harter. She was predeceased by her siblings, Florence, Everett, Anna, Myles Jr., Violet, Lillian, William, Pearl, Jean and a special granddaughter Tracy Campbell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 to 2 PM prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, Make-A-Wish Foundation, or the Humane Society of Rome.
