Obituary of Madelyn Sullivan Madelyn McManus Sullivan of Charlotte passed away on January 23, 2019. She was born on March 18, 1924, in Syracuse, New York to the late Francis and Rose McManus. She received her degree in international studies from Syracuse University and worked for a time in New York City before returning to Syracuse to work for the Post Standard newspaper and the university.

She and her family relocated to Charlotte in 1965 and were charter members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She later attended St. Gabriel Church and St. John Neumann Church in Charlotte. Madelyn was employed by the Diocese of Charlotte for 27 years and is remembered by her colleagues for her kindness and dedication and especially her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by Gene, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her daughters Terri Wilhelm (Tim), Maureen Richards (John), and Suzy Moore (Dan), eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. “Grammy” will be fondly remembered by all of her family.

Visitation is from 5:30 – 7:30 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. , Charlotte, NC 28203. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in the Chapel at St. Gabriel Church, 3016 Providence Rd.
