OBITUARY Jo Ann Helms Passed away on January 19, 2019 Jo Ann Irving Helms Charlotte – Jo Ann, 88, gracefully passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at her home in Alpharetta, Georgia. She was in the care of hospice. Born December 31, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William Watkins Irving and Minnie Elder Irving.

Jo Ann graduated from Harding High School in 1949 and in 1950 she married the late Conrad “Sonny” Helms, beginning a lifelong journey together. They celebrated their 67th anniversary in November, 2017. A special highlight of their early marriage was living in Naples, Italy, while Sonny was serving in the U.S. Navy.

Following this, they returned home to Charlotte and started their family. Jo Ann was first a Mother and homemaker, but also worked for Universal Film Exchange and Home Finance Group in Charlotte after graduation. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, attending Third Presbyterian Church, Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Throughout her life, Jo Ann enjoyed her home in Charlotte as well as her vacation home in Holden Beach, NC, enjoying many years vacationing there with friends and family. Jo Ann enjoyed crocheting, creating many cherished afghans for family members and their children. Jo Ann is survived by her two children, Conrad C. Helms III and Lisa Helms McGuire; six grandchildren, Kelly McGuire Broucek, Chase McGuire, Pierce McGuire, Tommy Lloyd, Conrad C Helms IV and Griffin Holsenbeck Helms; nieces, Sarah Anne Price and Billie Howard, and nephew, Craig Wilson Hunter.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm on Thursday, January 24th, at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. A service to honor her life will follow at 2:00 pm in the Harry & Bryant Chapel. Interment will be held at Sharon Memorial Park.
