OBITUARY Manuel Barajas March 28, 1927 – December 13, 2018 Manuel Barajas was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. He was a graduate of McAllen High School and attended Pan American University for 2 years. Sergeant Barajas was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Barajas returned home and began his career as an airplane mechanic at Morefield Air Base. He then spent most of his career as a master mechanic with Montgomery Wards and the City of Houston Police Department from where he retired. Among the things he most loved was that of being a husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
He loved his family dearly and was a kid at heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing his guitar and singing. He also loved listening to tango, Spanish classical guitar and Spanish folk music.
Mr. Barajas and his beloved wife of 68 years, Socorro V. Barajas, traveled in retirement around the country and Mexico. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Socorro V. Barajas, daughter Melva Barajas Leija, grandson, Michael J. Leija, his parents Cleofas and Marcelina Barajas of Guanajuato, Mexico and all seven of his siblings from McAllen, Tx Armando, Cleofas, Guadalupe, and Salvador Barajas (Memphis, TN), Carmen Hernandez, Esther Rodriguez (San Diego, CA) and Maria Martinez. He also had two half siblings, Aurora and Rafael Barajas from Monterrey, Mexico.
Mr. Barajas is survived by two daughters Gloria Barajas and Gordon G. Alexander, son-in-law of Arlington, VA, Marinela Barajas Anderson and Rodney Anderson, son-in-law of Houston, Texas, and John F. Leija, son-in-law also of Houston. He is also survived by three grandsons: Steve Leija of Houston, Texas, Manuel Barajas- Alexander of Reston, VA and Emilio Barajas of Arlington, VA and one great granddaughter Alyssa M. Leija of McAllen, Texas. He had many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly as well.
