OBITUARY Manuel Luis Heredia November 10, 1936 – December 11, 2018 Manuel Luis Angel Heredia-Quesada, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 11th of December 2018, surrounded by all his children and a family friend. He was born in Ibague, Colombia, a city known for its musical heritage. Manuel became a US citizen in July 1971.

Manuel graduated in 1950 from Liceo de la Salle Jesuit High School in Bogota, Colombia. He then went on to attend The Colombian Naval Academy in Cartagena, Colombia. After graduating from the Naval Academy, he decided to pursue his love for engineering.

He returned to Bogota where he received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes. In 1959 he moved to the United States on a scholarship program to attend The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. His beloved Emilia followed him to the states and they were married, upon her arrival, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Miami, Florida.

Manuel and Emilia enjoyed 58 years together living a life full of love, family and friends. After Manuel graduated from Notre Dame in 1962 with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering, they moved to Houston, Texas. He spent his career as a civil structural engineer who was registered in both Texas and California.

He was highly respected and loved by his colleagues. Manuel was a devoted parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and then St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He loved music, sports, photography and spending time with his large circle of dear friends.

Friends and family enjoy reminiscing about Christmas Eve gatherings at the Heredia home and festive nature outings to beaches and parks. Manuel is predeceased by his wife Emilia Correa Heredia. He is survived by children Maria Edie (son-in-law Tom Edie), Manuel Heredia Jr (daughter-in-law Lisa Heredia), Gerardo Heredia (daughter-in-law Angela Heredia) and 8 grandchildren Emily, Olivia, Michael and Mary Edie, Brianna and Michael Heredia, Diego and Gabriella Heredia.

He also leaves behind siblings Carlos, Victoria and Rodolfo Heredia, in-law’s Ken and Clara Lesniak as well as numerous extended family both in the US and Colombia. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Maria Luisa for her many years of loving care. They would also like to thank the staff of Seasons Hospice and The Hamptons at Meadows Place who provided critical support in the final weeks of Manuel’s life.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock until seven o’clock on Sunday the 15th December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The recitation of the Holy Rosary in honor of Manuel is to commence at half past four o’clock in the afternoon.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at half past ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 17th of December at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft Street in Houston. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the National Kidney Foundation.
