Elmwood – Margaret A. Hasselbacher, 94, of Elmwood, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Elmwood. Margaret was born on April 26, 1924 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Earl R. and Margaret (Gmahle) Maher. She married Edwin G. Hasselbacher on December 30, 1942 at the Elmwood United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one son, Vernon (Linda) Hasselbacher of El Paso; three grandchildren,… Read More » Erik (Lee Ann) Hasselbacher of Eureka; Stefani (Edward, Jr.) Oltman of Benson; and Shannon Ramsey of El Paso; nine great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Frank Leonard of North Carolina; one brother, Martin (Judy) Maher of Elmwood; one sister, Betty Morse of Elmwood; two brother-in-laws, Clifford Hasselbacher of Morton and Roland (Darlene) of Massachusettes; one sister-in-law, Louise Hasselbacher of Peoria and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Sharon Leonard, and her brother, William Maher.

Margaret graduated from Brimfield High School and attended Bradley University. She was a lifelong homemaker and also worked for Shissler Seed Company for over 50 years, sorting corn. During the winter months, she worked at Ziemer’s Turkey Farm.

She was an avid seamstress, a member of the American Sewing Guild, the Peoria County Farm Bureau, and an active volunteer in her community. She never let her age slow her down. Margaret faithfully attended Union Church in Brimfield, where her funeral will be on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, also at the church.

Reverend Stephen Barch will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to BYE Ambulance or the Union Church in Brimfield.
