Obituary for Margaret Bishop Margaret Bishop, 87, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 14, 2018. She was born in 1930 and lived most of her life in Edinburg, Texas. Margaret was married to William (Shorty) Bishop on November 24, 1949.

She graduated from Pan American College with a degree in English and then earned a master’s degree in counseling from Texas A&M University. She was a much-loved teacher and co-worker throughout many years of teaching in both the Edinburg and McAllen School Districts. Earlier Margaret worked as secretary to the president of Pan American College and as a reporter for the Edinburg Daily Review and the Monitor.

Margaret was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, served in the women’s auxiliary of the Edinburg Fire Department, and also served as a volunteer at the Edinburg Hospital for many years. Margaret was very active in her church and served as both historian and as elder in the First Presbyterian Church. Music was always an important part of Margaret’s life and she sang in choirs beginning at an early age.

She was active in both the First Presbyterian Church choir and later the First Methodist Church choir. Margaret is preceded in death by her son, Charles Wilmer Bishop. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William C Bishop; daughters, Cynthia Bishop, Deborah (Ron) Janysek, and Jeanne (Paul) Newman; son, Scott (Paulette) Bishop; and by her grandchildren, Andrew Janysek and Hilary Janysek.

There will be a celebration of life service at John Knox Village in Weslaco on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Margaret’s name to: First United Methodist Church Edinburg, John Knox Village, or the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department.
