Mrs. Margaret Eulalia Griffin Glenn Savage, 100, passed away January 3, 2019, in the Hospice House of Union County, Monroe, NC. The least of 8 children born to James Millard and Eulalia Godwin Griffin at the Griffin Homeplace beside the Davis/Griffin Cemetery on Hwy 218 in Polkton, NC. She graduated from Polkton High School in 1937 and attended Wingate Junior College majoring in violin and piano.

Playing by ear and note, she inherited her musical ability from her mother’s family who were proficient in several instruments as well as composing. They played for many church functions. In 1940 she married Jonas Robert “Bob” Glenn of Bessemer City, NC.

They lived in Charlotte until 1945 when they moved to Polkton where Bob built, owned and operated a Gulf service station with living quarters above. She helped run the station and then before retirement worked several years in the library of Anson Junior High School. After retirement, the two traveled many years, spending winters in south Florida, but using the rest of the year seeing most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

They were married 53 years until Bob’s death in his home in 1993. In 1995, Margaret married Albert Raymond “Ray” Savage of Seneca, Illinois. She and Ray also traveled several years in his motorhome prior to his death in Polkton in 2008.

Margaret continued to live in her home cared for by her daughters, grandchildren, and in the last few years, excellent caregivers. Survivors include her daughters, Jeannie Glenn Griffin of Polkton, Lenette Glenn Glass (George) of Chattanooga, TN, Mary Ann Glenn Jones (Wayne) of Polkton; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; step-children, John Savage (Janie) of Skokie, IL, and Judy Benton of Burlington, IL; a sister-in-law, Nancy Glenn Waters of Shelby; and many nieces and nephews. Service arrangements are pending to accommodate several relatives’ schedules.

They will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse in Charlotte; Polkton Baptist Church, the Polkton Women’s Service Club, or Hospice of Union County in Monroe.
