She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to David and Hazel (Taylor) Wise. Margaret graduated from Tyrone High School (Pa.

) in 1939 where she was on the debating team seventh through 12th grade. She graduated from Penn State in 1943. Margaret was a first-grade teacher in Roseville, Michigan and Rockville, Maryland.

She used the Initial Teaching Alphabet and was interested in different ways to group classes. She was the first woman on the elementary level to serve on the teachers’ association bargaining team in the Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland. While studying for a second Master’s degree at University of Hawaii in 1972, she became interested in women’s rights, history and studies.

She was a voice for gender equality in MCPS, and the state of Maryland, and was recognized for her work on gender bias. She presented in-service courses on the history of women, wrote research papers and enjoyed giving presentations to women’s groups. Margaret created a poster of birthdays of women of achievement, which was picked up by the National Women’s History Project, Santa Rosa, CA, and was a best-selling item in the catalogue.

She was a board member of NWHP for many years and saved the organization from financial collapse by paying off its debt while working and using her pension. Her women’s history library was donated to The Alice Paul Institute, Mount Laurel, NJ. She enjoyed reading novels and mysteries, and wrote summaries in notebooks.

She subscribed to impossible puzzle books, and was a talented knitter and tatter. In 2014 she started the tatting group at the Loveland Library. Margaret helped financially for her children to complete college.

She is survived by her children (who watched in admiration her active life), Chuck, Oakland, CA; Carolyn Taylor, Loveland; Douglas, Pasadena, CA; Richard, N. Bethesda, MD; and grand-daughter, Emily, Santa Cruz, CA. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel, Green Valley, AZ and Robert Wise, Columbus, OH and her sister, Lois Knapp, Wasilla, AK. Margaret’s wishes were Donation to Colorado State Anatomical Board.
