Margaret’s Obituary Margaret ‘Peggy’ Czarnecki, born Jan. 28, 1940, in Scranton, Pa. , passed peacefully early Sunday morning, Jan.

20, after a several year battle with COPD. Peggy was the last surviving child of Bridget and Delbert Williams of Scranton, Pa. Her siblings: Richard and Del Williams, Cynthia McAllister, Dorothy Cleveland and Diane Horvath preceded her.

She is survived by her only daughter, Deanne Price Rasmussen; and four sons, Mark Price and wife, Lisa; Dean Price and wife, Nori; Brian Czarnecki and partner, Kate O’Connor; and Ryan Czarnecki. Peggy is the grandmother of Cameron, Alli and Matthew Price, Marissa Martin, Justin Price, Amanda Zurla, Trevor and Jared Rasmussen; along with seven great-grandchildren. Peggy’s childhood friend Joanne Stead is and always will be her life-long confidant and rock of support.

Peggy retired from Metropolitan Life in Clarks Summit in 2008 as a systems analyst, after 36 years with the company. Her years at Met were chock-filled with fond memories, warm stories and the makings of some of her most cherished friends. Dedicated to her job, each of her kids remember racing the halls of Met on rolling chairs when Mom was called into work.

Peggy raised five children as a strong-willed single mom and her determination and resiliency showed through to her last hours in life with us. Her home was always filled with her children’s friends – it was a welcoming place to be. She was an active volunteer with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Green Ridge Little League.

After raising her children, she donated time with the Scranton’s Women’s Re Center along with Habitat for Humanity. She was past president of the Scranton Ski Club and loved her casino nights out with the girls. Peggy continued to be an avid skier and golfer after retirement, so much so that you could find her golfing with her battery-operated oxygen concentrator – she was ecstatic when she figured out the length of oxygen hose needed to reach her clubs and not get in the way of her backswing.

She had a passion for travel and visited countries in Europe, China and zip-lined in Costa Rica. There was just no stopping her determination to live life to the fullest even with restrictive COPD. As COPD finally progressed, Peggy entered the hospice system the first time in October 2017, the second time in May 2018 and yet again in October 2018.

She and her kids found humor in her strong will to beat hospice which was ever-present and well-known to all – quite sure the hospice nurses will remember it too. Sincere thanks is given to her home care providers; Alyse Cremard, Jessica Grosso, Chrissie Maholic and Jene Lindsay along with Laura Marion and her team at Allied Hospice. Peggy’s two wishes – the first is for a Celebration of Life event – there would be no funeral home for her.

The second wish is for donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Scranton Women’s Re Center in her name. Her children invite all who knew their Mom to join them on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Nosh/Al Mia Amore located at 280 Main Street, Dickson City from 5 to 8 p.m. Share some stories, bring photos of Peggy, enjoy complimentary buffet dinner and drinks, and celebrate the life of Margaret ‘Peggy’ Czarnecki.
