Obituary for Margaret Phillips Tomlinson Margaret Phillips Tomlinson was born November 24, 1926 in Driggs, Idaho to Sibyl Strong and Milton Phillips. Sadly, she died Friday, May 11, 2018 from a series of strokes at the age of 91. We are heartbroken but remember her as our beautiful, creative wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Margaret was a perfectionist. Every project had to be finished with all details being perfect. She was a great cook who prepared three meals a day for her family of nine children and her husband every day.

She was a skilled seamstress who hand crafted most of her children’s clothes, including all of the girl’s wedding dresses. She was very proud of the beautiful quilts she worked on. At the time of her death she was a board member of the Holiday Quilt Show and Auction where she became close with the women she worked with.

She loved all of her LDS church callings and the friends she made in their wards. She loved her family and always remembered birthdays with a card or a loving phone call. She was a planner, but when her husband would come home and say he wanted to go to the boat; her plans were cancelled and off they went to Lake Powell.

When Margaret was 16 years of age and living in SLC, she was spotted by a young man while she was walking down the street. Luckily for him, one of the friends he was with knew her and gave him her phone number. Hal and Margaret became engaged just before he shipped out to the South Pacific with a promise from her that she would wait for him; if and when he came home.

They were married September 18, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Together they raised nine children. Amidst the constant chaos, the children were taught good manners, style and grace.

Most of all, they were taught to love and cherish each other. Margaret is survived by her devastated husband, Hal R. Tomlinson, their nine children and their partners: Christine Stein (Jeff deceased 12/10/17). Wendy & Craig Thomas, Randi & Michael Foster, Robyn & Robert Leigh, Jana & Bill Turner, Kimberlee, Mitch, Brooke & Kelly Bolton and Sean & Annette Tomlinson.

Also surviving are their 23 grandchildren and innumerable great grandchildren. Bon Voyage, sweet darling. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mount Olympus Ward, 4635 S. Lanark Dr. (3315 E.) 84124.

The family will be greeting friends and family at the ward on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and again one hour prior to the service.
