Obituary of Margaret Gruneberg Brookfield – Mrs. Margaret Theresa (Fisher) Gruneberg, age 91 of Brookfield, passed peacefully into God’s arms on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Rudolph F. Gruneberg. Marge, as she liked to be called, was born March 7, 1927 in Brookfield, daughter of the late Frank E. and Catherine (Madden) Fisher.

She was retired after working 52 years as a bookkeeper at Markoff Shoes in Danbury, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brookfield, where she enjoyed reading the Psalm and carrying the Offertory plate for their Wednesday midweek service. She was an active member of the Brookfield Senior Center, where she enjoyed Hot Topics, bingo, going on trips, and helping out with the Holiday bazaar. She also enjoyed gardening, eating seafood, sitting out in her front yard, and spending time with her family.

Neighbors will miss seeing her out front and waving as they passed by. Marge is survived by her son, Geoffrey Gruneberg, of Brookfield; her daughter, Judith York and her husband, George, of Southbury; her siblings, Bob Fisher and Lillian Covill, both of Brookfield. She enjoyed spending time with and talking about her grandchildren: Nicole Gruneberg and her fiancé, Frank Rotovnik, of Danbury; Alisha Gruneberg and her partner, Ryan Buonocore, of Woodbury; Jeffrey York and his wife, Priyanka, of Atlanta; and Samantha York of Jamaica Plain.

She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Derek and Jaxon Buonocore of Woodbury, and several nieces and nephews. Margaret’s family will receive friends and relatives at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield on Sunday January 13, 2019 from 3 to 5 p.m, with a funeral service there at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Brookfield, at the convenience of the family.
