Marguerite J. Pefferman, 96, of Wayland, IA, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Parkview Home in Wayland. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church, rural Wayland. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., that same day, at the church, with Pastor Steve Dave Sheeves officiating.

Burial will be in Fern Cliff Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church. Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt.

Born May 13, 1922, at the family home south of Mt. Pleasant, Marguerite Jane was the daughter of Evans Dewey and Dorthea Marie (Hoyer) Pickard. She was a 1939 graduate of Mt.

Pleasant High School. On July 11, 1941, Marguerite married Robert Pefferman at Medill, MO. They later divorced.

A graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College in 1962, Marguerite completed her master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1966. For forty-six years Mrs. Pefferman instructed elementary school students in Henry and Washington Counties. During that time, she taught at Olds Elementary School, started the Title I Reading program for Washington Community Schools, and ended her long teaching career, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, Retired School Personnel Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Along with her teaching duties, Marguerite worked the family farm and kept it as a single parent. She was a member of Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church where she served on various committees, taught Sunday school, and was an Awana leader.

Marguerite enjoyed collecting recipes, cooking for her family and friends, and sewing. She was a voracious reader and dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Marguerite is survived by a son, Curt (Charlotte) Pefferman of Goose Lake, IA; three grandchildren, Jaime Leigh (Ben) Carpenter of Indianola, IA, Julie Anna (Shidfar) Rouhani of West Des Moines, IA, and Austin Paul (Jess) Pefferman of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Willadean Logan of Aurora, MO; along with several nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Rachel, Daniel, Aaron, Anna, Madalyn, Syrus, Sofia, Darius, and Hattie. Those preceding Marguerite in death are her parents; a brother, Richard Pickard; and two sisters, Dorothy Payne and Helen Weeden.
