Adonelia “Donna” Mascarenas, 88, passed from this life on Monday, October 8, 2018 at home in Farmington. She was born in Farmington, NM on August 6, 1930 to Juan and Isabel Martinez. Donna was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Estevan A. “Steve” Mascarenas, her parents, sisters Ophelia Enriquez, Louise Martinez, and a brother, Jose Martinez.

Donna lived and attended school in Southwestern Colorado, living in Arboles, Fox Creek, and Antonito. She also lived in Rosa, Flora Vista, and Farmington, NM. She and Steve were married on October 26, 1946 in Durango, Colorado.

They resided on Steve’s father’s ranch near Rosa, until Navajo Dam was built. They moved to Farmington in 1958, where they built a home in Flora Vista and resided there until 2001, when they moved to Farmington. After raising her children, Donna worked briefly at Britt’s Department Store in Farmington, and then obtained her GED and passed the postal exam to become a postal clerk.

She retired as a postal clerk from the Flora Vista Post Office. Donna enjoyed exercise, lunches and outings with girlfriends, church activities, traveling, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. Donna is survived by six children: Dolores Aldrich (Dave) of Farmington; Thomas Mascarenas (Camille – deceased) of Jamestown, NM; Christopher Mascarenas (Alice) of Billings, MT; Richard Mascarenas (Corby) of Fruita, CO; Gloria Lehmer (Bob) of Farmington, and Patricia Brown (Ray) of Farmington.

She is also survived by her brother, Albert Martinez (Norma), of Hanford, CA and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will have a viewing, Rosary, and Burial Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmington, NM on Saturday, October 13, 2018. The viewing begins at 10 a.m., Rosary at 1030, and Mass at 11:00, with Father Frank Chacon officiating.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington immediately following the Mass. A luncheon reception will follow immediately following the burial, location TBA. Pallbearers will be Donna’s Grandsons: Curtis Spangler, Marcus Mascarenas, Evan Spangler, Alan Buyok, Marcos Bermudez, and Adam Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be special nephew, Ross Gallegos, Jr. and Godchild, Grace Arietta. Donna’s care is entrusted to Farmington Funeral Home. Those who wish to express their condolences can do so at www.
