Marian was born in Union City, NJ to the late Samuel and Bertha Gold. She grew up in Mt. Vernon, NY and Brooklyn, NY.

Shortly after Pearl Harbor, she enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served with distinction during WWII from 1944 – 1946. For the next 50 years, the Krugmans worked in academia at Duke University and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and for the benefit of U.S. Military Veterans – Marian as a librarian, media specialist, and certified bibliotherapist and Arnold as a clinical psychologist and administrator with the Veterans Administration. Marian was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was the person who met you and never let you forget that you ever passed through her life. Her stories of the people she met throughout her life made this world very small and gave her so much happiness. She loved connecting people all her life all throughout the world.
