Obituary for Mrs. Marie Cavaletto Marie Venable Cavaletto, 85, of Seagrove, died Monday, December 3, 2018 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Seagrove, with Dr. Russell Brownworth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

With an inquisitive mind, adventurous heart and a soul that belongs to God, Mrs. Cavaletto was born January 12, 1933, in Guilford Co., the daughter of the late Edgar and Piercie Shelton Venable. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and High Point University, and taught at Bessemer and Union Hill Schools. In 1962, she began teaching 6th grade at Clark Air Base in the Philippines and was able to explore Southeast Asia.

There she lived an exciting life being mistaken as a ghost, a movie star, and suspected of being a spy while having her room bugged and placed under surveillance. After four years of close calls, God “clipped her wings” and sent her a husband, Bert, a retired Air Force Captain and C.I.A. employee, and made her an instant mother of three. Bert preceded Marie in death four years ago, also on December 3.

Marie thoroughly enjoyed painting with oils and learned Sumi-e painting in Okinawa, but water colors were her favorite. She loved painting with the very tolerant, encouraging, helpful and fun group, Asheboro Artists Collective, at the Moring Art Center. She also took sculpture classes and loved the details in ordinary things of nature, flowers, animals, and people just to name a few.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, basket weaving, hooking rugs, quilting, turning pottery, enameling on copper, making stained glass, and glass blowing. Marie never wanted to slow down. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie’s brother, Jack Venable, also preceded in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Ann Schroder, of CA, Cathy Ajeman, of Henderson, NV; son, Michael Cavaletto, of Newport, NC; nieces and nephews, Mary Ellen Wilkerson, Alan Venable, Mark Venable, Linda Venable; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the church, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Randolph County Prison Chaplaincy Program, PO Box 2665, Asheboro, NC 27204, or to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 5474 Pleasant Hill Road, Seagrove, NC 27341.
