Marie Mazie Jones was born on December 6th, 1943 in Wilmington, North Carolina to (the late) Thomas Lee Mitchell and Lula Mae Lane. She departed this life on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018. Marie loved learning.

She received her education from Williston High School in Wilmington, and studied Business Administration at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. In addition, she was an avid reader of all genres. Marie was a secretary at Johnson & Higgins Insurance Brokerage Firm for thirty years.

Her co-workers and supervisor admired her work ethic and secretarial skills. She truly inspired everyone in her presence. Marie enjoyed going to church and studying the Word of God.

Singing and listening to gospel music made her soul happy. Under the pastorate of Bishop Michael Jackson, Marie was a member of Antioch Church of Jesus Christ where she humbly served as a Missionary, visiting hospitals and praying for the sick and shut-in. Marie spoiled her children, but raised them to be strong and independent.

She always instilled in them the value of education, and supported all aspects of their lives. She was a good friend and sister who had a loving and giving spirit. Marie forgave anyone who offended or hurt her.

Marie feared nothing . . .

not even death; thus, we know that all is well with her soul! Though preceded in death by her parents: Lula Mae Lane and Thomas Lee Mitchell, her sisters: Maxine and Shirley Pitt, and her husbands: Lee Levy and Joseph Jones; Marie leaves to cherish her loving memory, her two daughters: Marilyn Levy and Regina Harris (and her husband Eric, Sr.); three sons: Reginald Levy, Kevin Levy (and his wife Tina) and Curtis Levy (and his wife Maggie); one sister Inez Watson; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
