Obituary for Marie T. Shepitka Marie Therese Shepitka June 25, 1928-March 27, 2019 Marie Therese Shepitka went to her forever home early in the morning on Wednesday, March 27th. Marie was born in the Bronx, NY, to Jack and Marie Killackey. Marie attended St Michael’s High School in Manhattan, then spent four years at Trudeau in Lake Saranac.

She married George Shepitka in 1951,and together they raised their family, first in Yonkers, then in Congers, NY. Marie was a nurse with a passion for those with special needs. She dedicated her life to caring for others, and until her final years was actively involved in community service and volunteerism.

She was a founding member of the Congers/Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps, and was one of the first EMTs in Rockland County. Her most recent passion was serving at the SoupAngels soup kitchen in Nyack, where every week she hand wrote and delivered inspiring and encouraging messages for the guests. Marie is survived by her children Katie and husband Ed Berry, Patti DeVivo and fiance Steve Anger, Rob and wife Isabelle Shepitka, Suzy and husband Kevin O’Connor, and John and wife JoAnnn Shepitka, her 11 grandchildren Kaylin, Matthew, Joanna and husband Michael, Jonathan, Joshua, Danielle and husband Josh, Jessica, Jeremiah, Kim, John James, and Sarah, and her great-grandson, Phineas.

Her beloved sister, Joan Dosch Freire, also survives her, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews and their families. She is also survived by her devoted aide and friend, Mavis Nyakoa. A wake will be held from 4-8pm on Friday, March 29th, at Hanneman’s Funeral Home in Nyack.

A memorial is planned for Saturday, March 30th, at 11am at All Souls Community Church, 81 Washington Ave, Suffern, NY. In lieu of flowers, Marie hoped that donations would be made to Samaritans Purse, Soup Angels of Nyack, Hi Tor Animal Shelter, or United Hospice of Rockland.
