Obituary of Marie Luise Dimond Marlies Dimond (Meyer), 84, passed away quietly, surrounded by loved ones, at her State College home on March 10, 2019. Marlies was born on February 2nd, 1935 to Erich Meyer and Berta Adam in Bochum, Germany. A child of war, she’s been a survivor since the beginning.

Her stories from childhood around daily bombings, or trying to scavenge for food is something that haunted her for a lifetime and something no child should ever endure. However, she managed to remain positive and move forward, as only a survivor can do. Malnourished and scared, she escaped the Russian occupied zone for the west, after the war.

She quickly fell in love with the American dream and often talked fondly of the American soldiers who gave her chocolate as a 10 year old child. Leaving all she knew, a teenage Marlies moved to Massachusetts with dreams and hopes for a better life. Becoming a citizen was one of her proudest memories.

She was a woman of many talents, who loved to learn and thrived off of new and exciting things. She could speak multiple languages, play many instruments and loved to sing. She could crochet, draw, paint and sew with the best of them and well into her later years she spent hours trying to learn new skills like her beloved Thai Chi.

A huge fan of Jeopardy and crosswords, her mind was always going, trying to improve. She spent much of her adult life in Philadelphia, followed by East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, where she raised her children. Finally, she moved to Happy Valley, to live out her later years in the mountain air.

She loved her view from her balcony of Mount Nittany and dreamed of climbing it one day, as it reminded her of her childhood home. She is predeceased by her grandson Kyle Lynch and survived by her 6 children, Bettina Power (Jack), Catherine Alfeche (Paul), Kelly Dimond (Andrew Carey), Rosemarie Dimond, Robert Dimond and Joseph Dimond (Dana), along with 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. While they did divorce and move on with life’s of their own, she remained in contact as a friend with the father of her children, Robert Dimond, until the he passed 5 months ago.

Standing at 5 foot tall, she was fearless and one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth. She will be truly missed by many, as all who met her fell in love with her infectious laugh and her love of life. She will be memorialized in a private family ceremony.
