Funeral service for Marion Doyce Smith, age 96, of Decatur, will be Sunday, December 30, 2018, 5:00 p.m. at Grace River Community Church with Rev. Barry Sempsrott officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the church.

Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Doyce passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at his home. He was born February 17, 1922, and a proud, lifelong resident of Austinville.

He served his country in the Pacific Campaign during WWII. After the war he married Mildred Smith, and they had one son, Kenneth Smith. He was a lifetime member of the Austinville Church of God/Grace River, and served in multiple positions in the church.

He loved the church and was proud to have lived his entire life as an active member. Doyce retired from the U. S. Postal Service and remained active in the community during his retirement. Proud of his heritage, he was a reliable historian of old and new Austinville.

He knew and remembered most of the residents from pre-television days until the present. A generous man, he freely opened his heart and doors to many in need when neighbors were friends and family, and could be counted upon to live in community with all churches and people. He is survived by Kenneth (Sherry); granddaughter Jonna Smith and her family, Courtney Richey, Laila Franklin, Dylan, Patrick, and Wyatt Richey, and Clayton Monk (Kelsie); granddaughter, Amy Coffman (Tim) and her family, Tyler, Emma, and Atticus Cade Kenneth Coffman; and three sisters, Masinah Hawkins, Elizabeth Hayes (Lou), and Peggy Vinson.

Doyce was the son of M. H. Smith and Emma Means Smith, husband of Mildred Lee Smith, and brother to Billie Roy Smith and Howard Smith, all of whom have welcomed him home. He was a beloved son, husband, father, PawPaw, uncle, and friend. His life will be remembered and cherished.
