Marjorie Ann Kummer Mecham was born on February 19th, 1933 and passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on January 14th, 2019. Marjorie was born in Heber City, Utah to Thomas Lawrence Kummer and Della May Thompson. Being a home health aide was Marjorie’s passion for over 40 years.
She loved ensuring that not only her family, but those she cared for were safe and had all that they needed. If her patients couldn’t afford her services, she happily volunteered her time to make sure they were well taken care of. The love of caring for others was passed onto her children and grandchildren and can be seen in the many CNA’s and other caretakers within her family.
Having her hair and makeup all done up was a key feature if you knew Marjorie. Big jewelry, soft curls, and bold makeup were her staples for going out. Marjorie loved spending time with her family at reunions or camping.
During the summer she especially enjoyed the Fair, attending the “Pow Wow”, and taking her grandchildren to the carnival or circus. She would scour yard sales on the weekends and when she was looking for something to do she loved to people watch in the Smith’s parking lot while eating a cheeseburger. If she were in the mood for some ice cream, the people watching would be on Main Street while enjoying her ice cream from Dairy Keen.
And boy do we know how much she loved chocolate ice cream. Being a simple woman, Marjorie, didn’t need much throughout her life, but was willing to give everything she had to others. She lost herself in service, love for her family, and dedication to enjoying life.
We are blessed to have her as an example within our lives. Marjorie is survived by her brother; Karl (Lynette) Kummer, two sons; George Terry Mecham and Jay Mecham, many grandchildren; Jamie (Randy) Mecham, Casey (Becky) Mecham, Jill Mecham, Lindsay (JD) Giles, and Lora Mecham, many great-grandchildren; Justin (Taija) Mecham, Colton (Bell) Mecham, Teresa Huggard, Chase Lundin, Tanner Lundin, Jacey Lundin, Owen Giles, Tatum Giles, a few great-great-grandchildren; Hazel and Aspen Mecham, and a dear friend; Kathy Larsen. Preceding her in death is Marjorie’s husband Garn Mecham, brothers; Ray, Earl, Bud, and Tommy, sisters; Dorothy, Afton, Arvela, and Iris, close friends; Melba Kinsey, Betty Bowman, and LaRay Mitchell, and a life-long companion; Tom Mair.
