Trower, 79, of Perry, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at South Fork Cemetery at Santa Fe with Deacon Brian Meranda officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home.
A celebration honoring Marlene’s life will follow from 3 until 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Perry. Come join us in fellowship and share your favorite stories of times spent with her. Mrs. Trower passed away at 8:05 a.m. May 22, 2019 at University Hospital in Columbia.
She was born in a little farmhouse on October 6, 1939 in Montgomery City, the daughter of Riley Leo and Elizabeth Lenore Edwards Hughes. Survivors include; three sons, Teddy (Debbie) Dettenwanger of Montgomery City, Bruce Samuel (Gayle) Berthold Jr. of Austin, TX and Craig (Stephanie) Bergthold of Columbia; two daughters, Dottie (David) Knoepflein of Montgomery City and Cindy (Danny) Colbert of Pittsfield, IL; twelve grandchildren, Blake and Jesse Dettenwanger, Melinda Phillips, Lynn Woodward, Derek Knoepflein, Deanna Plumb, Ashley Johnson, Zachary Utterback, Shelby Hawkins, Emileigh Majors, Gavin Miller and Alex Overcamp; and fifteen great grandchildren, Braden, Brenden and Briley Plumb, Kadence and Hadley Knoepflein, Kaydance Marlene Sneed, Annie, Allie and Remington Utterback, Kennith and Kenslei Woodard, Kylar Overkamp, Justice Dixon and Bently Majors. She was preceded in death by her parents; Riley Leo Hughes (father), Elizabeth Lenore (Edwards) Huhn and Orval Huhn (step-father); her first husband, Jerry Dettenwanger and her second husband, Bruce Samuel Bergthold, Sr.; one son Edward Dettenwanger; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Morgan.
Marlene Trower was a lifetime area resident of the Perry and Montgomery City area. She was a Christian by faith and member of the St. William Catholic Church and St. William Altar Society. She was a 1957 graduate of Montgomery County R-II High School and a 1984 graduate of Davis Hart Cosmetology School.
She worked for many years as a cosmetologist and was the owner and operator of Hairsport Beauty and Tanning Salon. She was a member of the Mark Twain Lake Chamber of Commerce and served as past president of the National Cosmetology Association. She was a Cardinal baseball fan, loved her family dearly and spending time with them.
