Marlyce’s Obituary Marlyce Ann (Younggren) Peterson, 85, of Hallock Minnesota passed away peacefully at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Nursing Home on December 14, 2018. Marlyce was born and raised in her rural home near Northcote, Minnesota to Anna (Lund) Younggren and Edward Younggren on July 25, 1933. She and her family were active members of the Northcote Presbyterian Church and she attended elementary and high school at Hallock, Minnesota graduating in 1951.

She then continued her education at Bemidji State College from 1951 to 1953, and then taught at Hallock from 1953 to 1955. On November 22, 1953 she was united in marriage to Philip Peterson at the Northcote Presbyterian Church. On January 18, 1955 Philip was drafted into the Army, and Marlyce stayed home and taught school while Philip trained recruits at Ft.

Lewis, Washington for the next two years. Upon completion of his military service, Philip went to college on the G.I. Bill at NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. During this time Marlyce taught school at West Fargo Elementary, and took night classes at Moorhead State College to finish her four year teaching degree.

Philip and Marlyce lived in West Fargo from 1955 to 1961. From 1961 to 1965 Marlyce taught school in Karlstad. In September of 1965 they left Karlstad and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota for Philip to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota in Plant Pathology and Physiology.

The summer of 1966 they moved back to Hallock to begin teaching at the Hallock Public Schools in the fall. Marlyce taught in the Hallock Public School from 1966 to 1993. They purchased and lived on the “home farm” east of Hallock from 1966 to 2015.

As a kid Marlyce was very involved in Girl Scouts and 4-H. Being in 4-H is where she learned her magnificent sewing skills. Over the years, as her girls were growing up, she made many outfits and skating costumes.

She also made many elaborate costumes for her daughter Karen’s elementary school programs. Another of her many talents was that of creating scenes and backdrops for those school programs. Always the talented artist, Marlyce could cut letters without using a pattern and drew most things freehand.

Marlyce was also a very talented musician. She and her family were a part of “The Peterson-Swanson Family Singers” along with the Charles and Patti Swanson family. As many knew, she loved a good sing-a-long.

Marlyce is survived by two daughters, Jillayne (Brian) Kraska, Hallock MN, Kimberly (Ryan) Siegmund, Hoschton, GA; a son-in-law Joel Vold Hallock, MN; nine grandchildren, Michael (Breanna) Otterson, Scottsdale, AZ, Jon (Ashley) Otterson, Grafton, ND, Jaclyn (Brent) Heubner, Morris, MN, Desirae (Andrew) Friskop, Fargo, ND, Blaine (Brittany) Kraska, Hallock, MN, Nichole, Blake, Kylie, and Téa; six great-grandchildren, Braeden, Maxx, Zachary, Eva, Harper and Brekk; a brother-in-law Daniel (Mary Ellen) Peterson, Federal Way, WA, sisters-in-law Violet Dahlgren, Mahtomedi, MN, Eunice (Ivan) Folland, Owatonna, MN, Alice Joy Johnson, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Dian Erickson, North St. Paul, MN, Janice and Rose Younggren both of Hallock, MN. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marlyce was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Edward; her husband Philip; an infant son, Keith; her daughter Karen Vold; brothers Harley and Larry Younggren; in-laws, Florence and Alf Peterson; brothers-in-law, Rev.

Ray and Rev. Delpho Peterson, Verne Dahlgren, Rev. Dr. Marshall Johnson, Ellsworth Erickson and Rev.

Richard Pieper; sisters-in-law, Doris Pieper, Violet and Phyllis Peterson; a nephew, Tim Peterson and two grandnephews, Michael Kramer, and Daniel McMillan, great-grandnephew Jonathan Peterson and great-grandniece Aimee Rose Carlson. Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, December 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.

Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Frank Johnson, presiding; special music will be performed by Grace Lutheran Church Choir, Renee Wahl, organist. Honorary pall bearers will be Marlyce’s grandchildren.
