Martha began life In Greensboro, Georgia. She was the oldest of four children born to Annie Lou Rowland. Her education was performed in the Greene County School System.

Preceding her in death was her twin sister, Mary Lou Lawson of Reidsville, GA, two brothers, Reverend Bill (William) Rowland of Albany NY and Henry (Uncle Buddy) Rowland of KCMO. Martha was married three times. All husbands preceded her in death, Wallace Shelton, Cleveland Brown and Quention Prueitt.

Martha accepted Christ and was Baptized at an early age. She began her spiritual walk at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Greensboro, GA. Her entire life was devoted to Christ and Family.

The Family migrated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1947, seeking a different life than the one afforded them in a segregated south. She continued her spiritual ways and was a member of several churches, looking for a special church to call home. She finally decided to make Swope Parkway United Christian Church her church home.

She said it was there that she finally felt complete. She Never wavered. Martha was an expert cook.

She specialized in Italian Cuisine. She was employed by several family owned Italian Restaurants in the Kansas City Area until she retired in 1988. Martha loved her family and was affectionately called Granny Prueitt.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Marie Stovall, Martha Lou Gordon and Cleveland H. Brown, Sr. (Carol), all of Kansas City. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren; fifty great-grandchildren; ninety-one great-great grandchildren, and an uncountable number of other relatives and friends. Martha’s suffering is over now.

She is in a better place. Do not grieve, let the joy of the Lord be your strength. SHE HAS GONE TO LIVE WITH GOD!

FUNERAL SERVICE TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 2019, 12:00 P.M. Swope Parkway United Christian Center, 6140 Swope Parkway, KCMO 64131. Visitation: 10:00 A.M. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery.
