Mary Alice Smith, born January 17, 1929, passed away on February 10, 2019 at her residence at the age of 90. Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel on Tuesday, February 12th from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Sharon with interment to follow at the church cemetery. Bro.

Matt Olson will officiate. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Smith retired from Kux Jewelers after 50 years of service at the age of 87. She also worked for Jones County as a poll worker and for Laurel Leader Call as a paper route carrier, as well as Reliance Manufacturing.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sharon where she received several awards for perfect attendance, served on the hostess committee and as a greeter, and was also a choir member. She will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard M. Foster and Gertrude Graham Foster; husband, J. W. Smith; and son, Richard Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Jones (Roland) of Laurel; grandchild, Karan Sims Chastain (Larry); great grandchildren, Brandon Dykes (Alexandra), Donivan Chastain, Daniel Chastain, and Holly Chastain; brother, Richard Bobby Foster (Justine) of Laurel; and sisters, Ida Sue Murchie of Ellisville, Hilda Mae Aaron of Baton Rouge, LA, and Carolyn Edwina Henderson of Denham Springs, LA; Pallbearers will be Brandon Dykes, Donivan Chastain, Daniel Chastain, Noah Holifield, David Adam, and Hunter Gavin. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Jones, Larry Chastain, David Murchie, Dan Murchie, Allen Aaron, Randy Foster, Tommy Henderson, Mike Henderson, Tracy Henderson, Buddy Akerman, and Jerry Akerman.
