Mary “Doty” Samson, 60, Zanesville, passed away on January 31, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark after a long battle with cancer. Doty was born on September 6, 1958 in Zanesville. She is the daughter of the late Robert Samson and Pauline (Edington) Kimble.

She attended Philo High School and to the vocational school for Horticulture. She worked for Oscars Café as a grill cook, for Bernies Country Kitchen as a server and cook, for the LumiLite Candle Company and for Es Wire. She loved playing pool, collecting butterfly’s, bowling and watching her brother Bobby Dale play the blues.

She loved to ride on the back of a motorcycle and being a member of the Gamblers Motorcycle Club for several years. She also ran the concession at moxie bingo for several years. She loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family and grandchildren.

Doty is survived by longtime boyfriend, John Harper; her two sons, Phillip Lee Ivey Jr. and Christopher Ivey of Zanesville; her three grandchildren, Darrean, Devin, Emma, Ashton and Santana; her step-mother, Peggy Samson; her aunt, Lovella Rutter; her nephew, Adam Samson; a great niece, Aidyn Hall; a special aunt, her cousins, aunts, many friends, Aaron Foreskin, Uncle Frank and ‘Chico’ her puppy. In addition to her parents, Doty is preceded in death by, her daughter, Santana Ivey; her sister and brother-in-law, Polly Ann (Jerry Langley) Samson; her brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Dale (Connie Lynn) Samson; her niece, Sheena Langley and the father of her children, Phillip Ivey Sr. Visitations will be 11 to 1 pm, Tuesday, at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm with Pastor Larry Wolford officiating.
