Obituary for MARY FRANCES STRAIGHT MIAMI NATIVE DIES AT 82 STRAIGHT, Mary Frances passed away on July 30th, 2018. She was born and raised in Miami, by her parents, Dr. Jack A. McKenzie, MD and Edith H. Woodard McKenzie. She attended Coral Gables Senior High School, graduating in 1954, then matriculated to Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1955, where she joined the Chi Omega Sorority.
Always talented in math, she transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1956, received a BSBA in Accounting in 1958, and graduated 5th in her Business School class. Mary Frances worked for Morgan, Altemus and Barrs, City National Bank of Florida, and Ring, Mahoney and Arner, before establishing her own accounting practice in 1978, in Miami FL. She earned her CPA in 1975.
In addition to her career, Mary Frances was actively involved in many non-profit organizations, for which she frequently served as president and/or treasurer. Among these were the Spinsters Club, the Miami Chapter of Chi Omega Alumnae; Randolph-Macon Women’s Club; Miami Dental Auxiliary; Child Guidance Clinic; Children’s Psychiatric Center; Miami Arts Center; United Protestant Appeal; Coral Gables Music Club; First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables; Junior League of Miami; and Guild of the Museum of Science. She was also a member of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club and the Century Club of Coral Gables, with her late husband, Dr. Jacob F. Straight, DDS, for many years.
For over twelve years, Mary Frances lived at East Ridge Retirement Village at Cutler Bay. There she was active in the Low Vision Support Group, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Republican Club at Cutler Bay, and the East Ridge Town Hall/Council. Mary Frances’ most cherished memories were of her many friends from her childhood, school days, clubs, and East Ridge.
A special thank you is extended by her family to the many folks who cared for her over the years, especially the staff of East Ridge Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, at 10 AM, at the Auditorium, at East Ridge Retirement Village, 19301 SW 87th Avenue, Cutler Bay FL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the East Ridge Retirement Village will be appreciated.
