Obituary for Mary Helen Heaton Hughes Mary Helen Heaton Hughes, age 90, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2018 from Hermitage Health Care Center of Elizabethton. Mary was born in Carter County to the late Frank and Maggie Miller Heaton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mack Hughes; her second husband, Holt Hughes; two brothers, Richard Heaton and Melvin Heaton; one grandchild, Tiffany Holdren, and one sister, Naomi Odom.

Mary was a homemaker and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. She was loved by everyone and acted as a mother and grandmother to all she encountered. She loved to quilt, work with her flowers, and crochet but also enjoyed cooking, canning.

Mary considered her children and grandchildren her life. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Faye Shrader and husband George Sr, Wayne Hughes and wife Vicky, Ann McMahan and husband Topsy, Bobby Dean Hughes, Randal Hughes and wife Doneva and Karen Morgan and husband Larry; her brothers and sisters, Frankie Hurd, Dorothy Fowler, Betty Cross , Robert Heaton, Guy Heaton, Billy Heaton; her grandchildren: George and Carolyn Shrader, Kim and Kenny Poe, Tabatha Hampton, Brian and Jordyn McMahan, Jeff McMahan, Deana and David Carswell, Dereama Hughes, Robert Hughes, Chasity and Jonathan Powell, Courtney and Neal Long, and Zachary and Logan Morgan. Many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as her special friend Ron Babb, also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Mary Helen Heaton Hughes will be conducted at Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel on Monday, December 3rd at 2:30PM with Pastors Randy English and Jim Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30PM until 2:30PM prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted following the service Monday, December 3rd in the Hughes Cemetery.
