Obituary for Mary Kathryn Gwynne Mary Kathryn (Penrod) Gwynne, 92, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:23 pm at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on February 21, 1926 in Sugarcreek, Ohio to Franklin William and Mary (Hostettler) Penrod, she lived in Alliance most of her life. A Sugarcreek Shanesville High School graduate, Mary was employed at Alliance Manufacturing Co. for over eight years.

Mary attended the First Baptist Church of Alliance. In her many years of ministry, she was a Sunday School Teacher and Junior Church Teacher, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society (making quilts for Church World Service), was a Sunday School Secretary, Church Secretary, Choir member and soloist, and also sang duets with her mother during Sunday Services. She was a member and Past President of the Alliance Music Study Club, Past Vice President of Ohio Federation of Music Clubs, a Life Member in National and Ohio Federation of Music Clubs and she organized Junior Music Clubs in Alliance.

Mary was Past President of Church Women United where she was awarded Valiant Woman of the Year and was the first woman President of the Alliance Council of Churches. Mary accomplished her life goal of giving away 100 Bibles. Mary enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and other crafts.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Alice Gwynne of Alliance; three sons, Bill R. (Judy) Gwynne of Clinton, John S. (Danielle) Gwynne of Tipp City and Richard Lee (Brenda) Gwynne of Piqua; five grandchildren, Preston Gwynne, Addison Gwynne, Shelby (Zack) Watson, Robin (Jerry) Semenchuk and Kelly (Emma) Brown; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dolores Harsh of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert P. Gwynne, whom she married on June 28, 1947 and who died on May 27, 2017; her parents; three brothers, Henry, Eldon and Paul Penrod; and a sister, Ruth Penrod. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Alliance.

Her Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am, with Rev. Joshua Smith, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
