Quincy – Mary “Deeda” L. (Burke) Barnette, 78, passed away in the late morning on October 23, 2018, peacefully with her family present at South Shore Hospital, after a long illness. She was the daughter of Arthur W. Samson and his wife Rita (Burke) Samson. She was the beloved sister of Valerie Langton and Barbara McNeil and the loving mother of the late Sue Elwood and Margo Martell.

She is also survived by her sons-in-law, William Elwood, of Scituate, and George Martell; her loving grandchildren Amanda DeAngelis, wife of William DeAngelis, Vanessa Hollands, wife of Jamie Hollands, Jessica Martell and Joseph Martell; Great-grandchildren Brayden DeAngelis, Camden DeAngelis and Tucker DeAngelis. She leaves behind many loyal friends and “fiancée” Pauline. She was a retired member of the Mass Teacher’s Association working in its administration.

She also worked for Doran & Horrigan, in the insurance field. She loved her work and enjoyed spending much time with her family. Services are at the Braintree Peck Funeral Homes at 516 Washington St. in Braintree, on Friday October 26th, 2018 at 10:00 AM visitation hour and will conclude with a prayer service at 11:30, concluding at 12 noon.

Donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in Boston at 51 Blossom St, Boston, MA 02114.
