When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart. Mary L. Jones, 78, formally of North Orwell, Pennsylvania but most currently lived at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY surrounded by her loving family. Born January 15, 1941 in Athens, PA, Mary was the daughter of the late Roy and Mary Sackett.

She was a graduate of Athens High School Class of 1959. Mary attended the North Orwell Union Church and was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Rome, where she served as Past Worthy Matron. Following graduation, Mary married Charles K. Jones on March 19, 1960, a windy and frosty day.

Together they raised four daughters who were cherished dearly. Mary was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend who dedicated her life to caring for others and giving back to her community. In years prior, she loved to bake for others, she was an avid hiker, swimmer, and an early morning walker.

Mary found joy in the simplicity of everyday life- picnics at the creek, croquet in the back yard, making s’mores and singing songs at the fire pit, and being the activity director for all family picnics. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary loved to travel around the states to visit each of her grandkids and attend their extra-curricular activities. She loved to tell stories, teach her grandkids her favorites games, watch movies, play kickball, and do arts and crafts.

Mary was famous for the cartoons that she would draw on paper bagged lunches and cards to her grandkids- her creativity and participation truly brought them joy. Mary will be greatly missed by her family Robin and Fred Wiginton, Kalesta and Marc Retter, Carlyn and Patrick Murphy, Shelly and Todd Raymond and her grandchildren Daniel Wiginton (Sheila Smith), Tyler (Kayla) Wiginton, Nolan Wiginton (fiancee Lauren Pallas), Lindsay Wiginton (Philip Morrissey), Alexandra Retter, Gillian Retter, Sean Murphy, Bethany Murphy, Kelsey and Jonny Leubner, Katie Raymond, Kristina Raymond, Collin Raymond and two great-grandchildren Quinten Cordon-Wiginton and Joshuah Claypool. Her sisters and brothers-in-law Katherine and Floyd Burns, Nancy and Robert Archer, Joan and David Redman, Janet and Albert Campbell, a brother Stephen Sackett and Sandy Clark and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Sharon Jones, and Shirley and Duane Phillips, and many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.

Mary was predeceased by her parents Roy and Mary Sackett, her loving husband Charles Jones her in-laws Edward LeRoy and Elizabeth Jones, her brothers Kenneth Sackett, Karl Sackett, Keith Edward Sacket, sister-in-law Doris Sackett, a brother-in-law Roy Jones. Mary thoroughly enjoyed her time spent with her family and friends, they were the cornerstone of her life. Like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions but our roots remain as one.

I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial services on Friday, March 8th at 11 am at the North Orwell Union Church, 34203 PA-187, Rome, PA 18837. Services will open with Order of Eastern Start Services.

Mary will be laid to rest, next to Charlie in the Rome Cemetery.
