Mary Martha (Martin) Carter was born June 25, 1923 in Oaks, Oklahoma to Joseph and Mary Jessie (Johnson) Martin. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 15 days. Growing up, Mary attended Victory School House near Rose, Oklahoma.

Mary lived in Rose until 1949. She and her family then moved to Locust Grove where she has lived in the same house ever since. On July 20, 1970, Mary and Robert Hugh Carter were united in marriage.

He preceded her in death on April 22, 1988. Mary was a dedicated homemaker. She had worked outside the home as an inspector for Cherokee TOGS, as well as a housekeeper at the Parkhill Nursing Home in Locust Grove.

She loved to make quilt tops, never following a pattern. Serving the Lord and loving her family were the most important things in Mary’s life. She was a member of the Iron Post Free Holiness Church near Locust Grove.

She was an avid Bible reader and a very devoted prayer warrior. Mary selflessly and continuously served the Lord. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Mary is survived by: 2 children: Jim Pirtle and wife Diane, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, and Margie Coday of Salina, Oklahoma; 1 daughter-in-law: Sue Pirtle of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 54 great-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren on the way; 1 brother: Homer Martin and wife Phyllis, of Rose, Oklahoma; numerous other relatives, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; both husbands; 4 children: Howard Pirtle, Wanda Daniels, William Pirtle, and Elmer Carter; 1 grandchild: Alyssa Paige Holman; 1 brother: Albert Martin; twin infant sisters: Deely and Dolly Martin. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Iron Post Free Holiness Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.

Reverend Travis Martin and Reverend Kevin Webster will officiate. Interment will follow at the Rose Cemetery in Rose, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
