Mrs. Mary Olevia “Ya” Chevis Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA, for Mrs. Mary Olevia Chevis, 94, who entered eternal rest, Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Senior Village Nursing Home. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Rev.

Francis Borgia Aubespin, SVD will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial. Mrs. Chevis is survived by three sons, Francis Xavier “Black” Chevis (Mary Ann) of Carencro, LA, Joseph Lonzy Chevis (Dorothy) of Houston, TX and Martin Wayne Chevis of Opelousas, LA; nine daughters, Lois Rita Benibo of Chattanooga, TX, Linda Gail Chevis of Opelousas, LA, Geneva Ann Chevis of Opelousas, LA, Josephine Ann Chevis of Opelousas, LA, Ramona Faye Chevis of Opelousas, LA, Carrie Jean Chevis of Opelousas, LA, Dr. Mary Melanie Chevis of Baton Rouge, LA, Gloria Anne “Musche” Chevis-Smith (Kevin) of Opelousas, LA and Susan Marie Teatro (Jeffrey) of Baytown, TX; a brother-in-law, Louis Chevis (Shirley) of Jennings, LA; a sister, Mary Alice “Sweetie” Boutte of Houston, TX; twenty eight grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Chevis was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lus Chevis; two sons, Charles Lee Chevis and John Louis Chevis; parents, Thomas Chavis, Sr. & Josephine Charlot Chavis; two grandsons, Cornell Alexander Dean and Brandon Chevis; four sisters, Alexandria Lavergne, Viola Ware, Onetha Chevis and Aline Leger; three brothers, Calvin, Alvin and Thomas Chavis; a son-in-law, Dr. Benibo S. Benibo; paternal grandparents, Marie Green Chavis and Louis Chavis; maternal grandparents, Alexandrine Cretein Charlot and Don Louis Charlot, II.
