OBITUARY Mary Patricia Rogers January 20, 1945 – October 2, 2018 Mary Patricia (Kocurek) Rogers was born January 20th, 1945 in Houston, Texas to Joseph & Camille Kocurek and passed away peacefully on October 2, 2018 surrounded by love. Pat was the most amazing wife, mother, Tutu, sister, aunt and friend. Pat was raised in Houston, Texas surrounded by faith and a huge family.
After graduating from Texas Tech University, Pat & Barry headed west to San Diego, where they made their home for the last 50 years. Pat’s career touched the community of San Diego over the years. When she first arrived in San Diego, she taught elementary school until she started her own family.
She worked at Childrens Hospital for 11 years as the Director of Community Relations and eventually started the Childrens Miracle Network Telethons here in San Diego. After leaving Childrens she became the Executive Director at San Diego Junior Theatre. Her love for the community was evident.
She was very involved at St. Charles Borromeo Academy and Church, University of San Diego High School, Madcaps, Junior League, President of the Childrens Hospital Auxiliary, Childrens Hospital Board of Trustees, Scripps McDonald Center, and much more. When Pat wasn’t volunteering her time, you could find her enjoying herself in her garden, reading or on an adventure with Lola. For those whose lives were touched by Pat, we know they will forever be changed.
Pat is survived by her husband of 50 years Barry, daughter Carrie Gismondi (Aaron), sister Judy Carson (Bill), the light of her life, her granddaughter Lola Gismondi, and of course Berta Leos. She is preceded in death by her son Chris, parents Joseph and Camille Kocurek, brother Joe Kocurek and granddaughter Gia Gismondi. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1pm on Thursday, October 25th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Point Loma, 2802 Cadiz Street, San Diego , CA 92110.
