GIESMAN, Maryellen (nee Smith). Loving daughter of June (nee Knierim) Hesselbrock and the late Leon Foster Smith. Beloved wife of the late Robert C. “Bob” Giesman, for 44 years.

Devoted mother of Brenda Lewis, Pat “PJ” (Kirk) Nordbloom, Robert (Dawn), Amy, Steven, the late Melissa “Louie” Giesman. Grandmother of Alex, Jacob, Kyle, Nicholas, Katie, Andrew, and Scott. Dear sister of Leon Smith and the late Wonetta Smith.

She also leaves behind many loving nieces & nephews; great grandchildren; and, a lifetime of loving and dearly devoted friends. Maryellen was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH; graduated from Central High School, and then married her high school sweetheart, Bob, who was the love of her life. Reunited in heaven, they will be celebrating their 55th year in marriage, together again.

Maryellen devoted her life to being a wife and stay at home mom, focusing her life around raising her family and serving an Almighty God with all her heart. As her children began their own lives she began a day care center in her home, and also worked as a teacher’s aide in Williams Avenue School. Church, Choir, Camp Fire Leader, PTA President, Red Cross, and countless hours volunteering at each of her children’s and grandchildren’s schools.

Those who knew Maryellen knew her to always be crafting, sewing, crocheting or building something for someone…. these were just a few of the many areas she served others throughout her life. After Bob’s death, she discovered the love of traveling and also began attending the many social opportunities provided by the Norwood Senior Center, a true lifeline of support throughout her initial cancer diagnosis and until her death.

Maryellen passed away on Monday, October, 1, 2018 at the age of 74 years, in her home, surrounded by her loving children, after a courageous battle with breast cancer and peritoneal cancer. At her request, a gathering of those who loved her will take place at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 5501 Montgomery Rd. , Norwood, OH 45212 Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the Seniors Meal Program at the Norwood Community Senior Center, 1810 Courtland Ave, Norwood, OH 45212.
