While farming in the Lyman area, Mas was an innovator and became a leader among the community of farmers when he was the first to use some major farm equipment such as a tractor—modern for those times.

Mas continued with his passion and interest in modifying major pieces of farm equipment, such as the improvements with the cultivating tractor to be more functional and efficient during the planting season. Mas also received Great Western’s top 10 beet grower’s award for several years. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge and remained a member until he passed. After retiring from farm life, Mas and Dorothy worked for Woodward Governor in Fort Collins, CO for 10 years before full retirement.

In retirement, one of Mas’s greatest joys was lake fishing across Colorado and Wyoming. He also loved traveling with family members and good friends. Mas and Dorothy enjoyed visiting 47 states including Alaska and Hawaii, 9 European counties, Japan, and parts of Canada.

Throughout his life, church and faith always played a major role in Mas’s life. He served on the building committee for St. Mary’s parish hall and was a member of St Mary’s/Holy Apostle’s vestry in Nebraska. Mas and Dorothy were active members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church as well as St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Fort Collins, CO.
