Matthew Christopher Condono, age 48, passed into the arms of the Lord on 5/27/2019 at his parents’ home, after a 19 month battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his parents Pamela Wasmundt, Darrell Carter, and Robert Wasmundt, his wife Elaine Condono, daughters Andrea and Erin, his brother Anthony Jones and family, his sister Amy Kreitemeyer and family, his sister Jackie Pratt and family, and sister Laura Thompson and family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Brent Wasmundt.
Matthew was born in Portsmouth, OH, but later moved to Racine, WI where he attended Racine Christian Academy. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served upon the USS Nimitz during the Persian Gulf War. Upon returning to the US, he attended Surry Community College in Dobson, NC where he earned his initial EMS certification.
Matthew served as a paramedic in numerous areas, including Effingham and Peoria, IL, and Fulton County, VA. Later he continued his public service by achieving law enforcement certification from Daytona Beach Community College. Matthew served the community of Daytona Shores, FL in the capacity of a public safety officer, which combined law enforcement, firefighter, and paramedic certifications.
He trained and was proficient in multiple skills, and served as SWAT and undercover narcotics task force for the State of Florida. During the early 2000’s he also served as crew chief for Rural Metro ambulance service. In addition to his law enforcement and paramedic service, Matthew owned and operated The Condono Group, INC, a private investigation and personal risk/security firm in the Orlando area.
Matthew was elected Vice President of the Florida Association of Private Investigators in 2006. Following the events of 9-11-2001, Matthew further served his country by enlisting with private military contract agencies, including Blackwater, Inc and Triple Canopy, Inc. Matthew served 4 tours in Iraq, as a security specialist and combat medic. He was attached to Special Operations Command in Camp Victory in Iraq, and among other duties was responsible for the security of the US Ambassador.
He was awarded the rank of GS-15, the civilian rank of Colonel, during his 4 tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Most of his missions remain classified. He remained a military consultant until nearly the end of his life.
