Obituary for Matthew David Poynter With deepest sorrow, we announce that Matthew David Poynter passed away in Brighton, MI on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the age of 31. Matt was born on June 5, 1987 in Michigan alongside his best friend and twin brother, Zach. He attended high school at St. Mary’s Prep in Orchard Lake, MI.
He went on to pursue his passion for helping others through medical studies coursework at Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College. Matt spent his summers working part time at the Ford Sheldon Road Plant and the Saline Ford Plant. In 2012, while continuing his studies, he began full-time work at the Ford Wayne Stamping Plant in various positions – including “team leader”.
In his spare time, Matt enjoyed driving and working on sports cars, weight lifting and physical fitness. He was an avid reader who was known to read his favorite books several times. Matt treasured his friends and found joy in the time they spent together.
Family and friends will always remember Matt for his sense of humor and dry wit. He was caring and fiercely protective of those he loved and generous toward those in need. Matt brought much needed kindness to this earth.
We find comfort knowing his faith in God has taken him to a better place. We’ll continue to tightly hold a piece of him in our hearts until we meet again. Matt will be missed every day by his surviving relatives – his loving parents, Rick and Marcia Poynter, his older brother, Jeffrey, sister-in-law Liz Poynter (niece Eden, nephew Joes), his twin brother Zachary Poynter and his grandmother, Pearl Poynter.
We know Matt is now with his Grandpa Irvin Poynter and Grandpa Chester and Grandma Nora Goodin in Heaven.
