Matthew F. (Matt) Koehler, 85, of Saegertown, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville. Born February 4, 1934, in (Nesbit Lake) Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Fred and Ruth (Stahl) Koehler. He married Patricia D. (Patt) Koehler on December 11, 1954, at the Linesville United Methodist Church.

She preceded him in death on June 26, 2016. He was a 1952 graduate of Linesville High School and then went on to get an associate’s degree in electronics. Upon graduating Matt enlisted in the United States Marine Corp.

He served 20 years active duty until 1972 and was released to Marine Corps Fleet Reserve until 1982. Matt retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. He also had retired from Meadville Forge.

In retirement Matt continued in serving his comrades and Americans by joining the local chapter of Military Officers Association of America and staying active in meetings and programs that serve in helping veterans and the local needs of their towns. He was a member and heavily involved with the Hamlin Chapel United Methodist Church in Hayfield Township. Matt was a certified lay speaker for the Erie and Meadville District of the United Methodist Church.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and golfing. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Koehler Smith of Beaufort, North Carolina; a son, Keith Koehler and his wife, Norma (Edminster), of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Sara Koehler and Adam Koehler; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph Dennis and his wife, Linda (Robbins) of Westminster, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patt (Dennis) Koehler; a daughter, Cherri Lynn Koehler; a sister, Eileen (Koehler) Glancy.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Linesville United Methodist Church, 334 West Erie St., Linesville. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Linesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Bobin, of the Hamlin Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors will follow the service.

Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to Hamlin Chapel United Methodist Church, 16460 State Hwy 198, Saegertown, Pa 16433.
