Obituary for MAURICE P. RICHER Maurice P. Richer, 85, of Camillus, NY, passed away at home on Monday eve, with his loving family and his dogs, Paco and Callie, at his side. He was born in Syracuse in May, 1933 and attended St. Anthony of Padua. In 1950, he joined the military and was honorably discharged in 1954 from the U.S. Air Force.

In 1956, he joined the Syracuse Police Department and was known as “Max”. He respectfully served until his retirement in 1977. In 1976, he founded Richer Enterprises, specializing in truck brokering.

He enjoyed that job for many years. But his favorite one of all was that of school bus driver. In the summer of 1998, he met his best friend, soulmate and wife, Rebekah, at Birnie Bus Service.

They married two years later and raised her son, Chris, whom he lovingly referred to as his “moon-haired child”. He retired from Westhill Central School District in 2013. He loved all children.

He was predeceased by his eldest child, Mark, on Thanksgiving Day, 2010, mother-in-law, Sheila Quick in Feb 2011, brother, Claude in Feb 2012 and his children’s mother, Marie, in Nov 2017. He will forever be missed and loved by his heartbroken wife, Rebekah, his children: daughter-in-law, Chris, daughter, Lynn, sons, Joe (Tammy) and Jimmy, his step-son, Christopher Barham, his brothers-in-law, John Quick and Mick (Margie) Quick, sister-in-law, Susie (Louie) Brown, his grandchildren, Terase (Donny) Shelley, Kira Modafferi, Nicholas (Kristi), Kim, Payton, Kendall, Jacob, Jagg, Paisley and Suede, and five great-granddaughters! He was called “Unc” by his adoring nieces and nephews.

He leaves behind cousins here and in Canada and also leaves several close friends. Selfless throughout his life to the very end, he donated his body to Syracuse University, therefore there will be no calling hours or service. A special thanks to his hospice nurse, Katrina, and his social worker, Kateri, for assisting me in making his last wish possible.

Without them, I could not have done it! Please consider donating to Hospice of CNY 990 7th North Street Liverpool, NY 13088. BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME has care of arrangements.
