Funeral services for Maves M. Zimmerman will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea, MN, with the Rev. Matthew Griggs officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Maves passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 with family by her side at the St. John Lutheran Home Apartments in Albert Lea. She was 91 years old. Maves Marvine (Wahlers) was born on December 28, 1927 outside of Myrtle, MN to Werner and Matilda “Tilly” (Lau) Wahlers.

She remembers waking up early to milk the cows before going to school at a one room schoolhouse. After schooling, Maves worked at Naeve Hospital where she would meet her future husband. On April 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Nathan Zimmerman in Myrtle, MN.

To this union, the couple was blessed with six children. The family would call Albert Lea, Manchester, and Clarks Grove areas home. Maves worked as a cook for many years.

Highlights included cooking at the Country Kitchen for 15 years, and at the Skyline Bakery for 10 years, along with a few other various locations. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking, crafting, and gardening – where they would sell their produce at the local farmers markets. Playing cards was always a favorite activity: “Nuts” “500” “Hand and Foot” were some of her favorites, and she never liked to lose!

Maves and friends also founded the group Polka Lovers of America, and she remembers making the outfits for new members. She will be known for her sense of humor and storytelling that will live on within her family. Maves is survived by her six children, Clay (Nancy) Zimmerman and their children Matt and Jody.

Audrey Mlodzik and her children, Jacalyn and Barry. Char Embry and her children David, Jon, and Mike. Ronnie (Danelle) Zimmerman and their children, Cory, Casey, and Kelsey.

Lonnie (Lori) Zimmerman and their child, Coreen. Connie Smith (significant other, Raleigh) and children Steven, Crystal, David, Shannon, and Tanner; numerous great-grandchildren; and many loving extended relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan; parents, Werner and Tilly Wahlers; granddaughter, Marcha Jepson, as well as 2 granddaughters and infancy; 6 great-grandchildren in infancy; and siblings, Earl Wahler, Marvine (Don) Hanson, and Wilfred Wahler.

Her memories will always be cherished by her six children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
