Mr. Maxwell (Max) Latimer Day, 83, of Mt Airy, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann (Crum) Day, wife of 64 years. Born March 4, 1935 in Kemptown, MD, he was the son of the late Kelsel W. Day, Sr. and Mildred J (Burdette) Day.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1953 and served in the Maryland National Guard. Max retired from David Taylor Model Basin at the Carderock Division of Naval Surface Warfare Center in 1989. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for Harrison Bus Service, in Woodbine, MD and Testerman Bus Service in Unionville, MD.

For many years, he was a member of the Browningsville Cornet Band and former Choir Director of Providence and Montgomery United Methodist Churches. He sang in local quartets and played saxophone in the Blue Notes Dance Band. Through the years, Max could be found butchering hogs at his home on Thanksgiving Day, working on the family farm, and making apple butter every fall at Providence UM Church.

He enjoyed seafood and never turned down an invite to eat crabs or fried oysters. Max was an avid sport fan. He played baseball for New Market in the Maryland State League, and later slow pitch softball for various teams in Damascus, MD.

He enjoyed watching and coaching his sons and grandsons baseball teams and was an avid Linganore High School Football and Maryland Terrapins fan. In addition to his loving wife, Maxwell is survived by his sons, Chris Day and wife Ruth of Libertytown, Md. , Brian Day and wife Amy of Williamsburg,Va.

, grandchildren Matthew Day, Lindsay Bolster, Jacob Day, Maggie Day, Claire Day, Joe Moravec, Jon Moravec, and great grandchildren, Tyson, Jack, Lily, Waylon, sister Janet Fisher, and brothers Basil Day Sr., and John Day. He is preceded in death by loving brother Kelsel W. Day, Jr. and sister Jane Day. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Providence United Methodist Church, 3716 Kemptown Church Road, Monrovia, MD 21770, with a visitation from 10 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the church hall.
