Obituary for May Buchanan May R. Buchanan, age 92, of U.S. 19-E in Spruce Pine, died Monday, May 28, 2018 at Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine. Born on July 10, 1925 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Myrtle Davenport Buchanan Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children Daniel Smith who passed away in 1973.
She later married, Ford Buchanan who was a loving stepfather to her children and they loved him dearly and he also preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Mack McMillan. May was a member of the Grassy Creek Baptist Church and retired after fifty years of service from Spruce Pine Mica Company.
She was a wonderful mother and wife. She was an exceptional cook and seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and working in her flowers.
She also enjoyed traveling. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Wanda Robinson and husband, Wayne of Sparta, NC; Pat Johnson and husband, Carl of Marion; and Beverly Freeman and husband, Joe of Spruce Pine; her grandson; Eric Honeycutt; who was the light of May’s life and known to Eric as ‘Nanney’ and his wife, Michelle of Spruce Pine; her sisters; Irene Justice of Marion and Carolyn Snyder of Spruce Pine; and her brother; John Young and wife, Faye of Hickory. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of May Buchanan on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s.
William Ellis and Matt Mills officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens.
