Maybrit E Runyon, June 26, 1920 — November 29, 2018

Obituary for Maybrit E. Runyon Maybrit (Elf) Runyon, 98, of West Hartford passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Jefferson House in Newington. She was born on June 26, 1920 in Tranemo, Sweden, daughter of the late Arvid and Hildur (Liljedahl) Elf. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1924 and spent most of her life in West Hartford.

She graduated from Hall High School and later met her husband, Robert Runyon. They married at Emanuel Lutheran Church on February 20, 1943. He predeceased Maybrit in 1982.

She was also predeceased by an infant son, Richard. Maybrit was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, and enjoyed her involvement with many church activities, especially the craft group. She loved to travel, enjoying many trips with family and friends to the US Virgin Islands and Florida.

She also loved UConn basketball. She was a wonderful cook, and passed on many recipes to her family, including traditional Swedish dishes. She seemed to have an endless supply of homemade chocolate chip cookies in her pantry, and made the best sweet tomato relish and mint jelly.

She is survived by her daughter Judy Larson and her husband Pete of West Hartford, and her son Jeff Runyon and his wife Dorothy of Brunswick, Maine. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Rick Larson, Dave Larson, Peter “Pudge” Larson and his wife Erin, Kristin Larson, Kathy (Runyon) Gravelin and her husband Rich, and Matt Runyon, and five great grandchildren, Anders, Emma, Ben, Hannah, and Ben. She was predeceased by her sisters, Stina Burton, Ruthie Hall, and brother Roy Elf, and many close friends.

The family would like extend their thanks to the staff on the Burnham Unit at Jefferson House for the wonderful care they provided to Maybrit over the years. A private ceremony will be held in her honor at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106.
